Mcclellan's Turn Part III, cont.

Hi Mom,

Daddy and Grandma took the trailer back to the downtown shop before before supper. The men were still working at the Courthouse. Grandma always has her camera, she took these pictures so you could see how high up they were. I like the man-lift. See you tomorrow.

Your son,

Mcclellan

Mcclellan's Turn Part III

Hi Mommy,

We went to see the new fire station today and the fireman let me sit in the engines. I already knew all about fire engines from my birthday party, but it's still cool.

We drove by the Thomas County Courthouse and there were men working on the roof. They were way up high. I like the machine that lifted them up so high.

Daddy is helping Grandma sort through some of Grandpa Mike's stuff. We went to the dump and it was really noisy when Daddy and Grandma threw out the iron. I decided to cry when I saw grandma's dog, Indy, today. It just seemed like time for a change since I've gotten along so well with him this week. I screamed, too, when he walked into me in the shop.

Sorry, Dad says I gotta go take a nap so I can help outside later. Dad is going to UPS to mail some packages for his work and Grandma is going to listen to me sleep. She sure is glad Daddy and I are having a day just for her. I will be glad to come home tomorrow and see you and Verity. Are you making a special treat for us?

Hugs & Kisses,

Mcclellan

Mcclellan's Turn Part II

Hi Mommy,

This morning Grandma Mary fixed me cheesy eggs and toast for breakfast. It was really yummy. Then we went to town to visit Great-Grandpa Jim at his office. I went to the donut shop with Grandpa all by myself. Grandpa had coffee and I had a donut. I like the snow globe that Great- Grandpa has on his desk. It has sparkles.

After we left the office, Grandma took me to story time at the library. This is Miss Judy. She read A Mud Pie for Mother to us. She gave me a picture of a pig and a glue stick. I smudged glue all over the pig and then Miss Judy sprinkled cocoa on it. Doesn't it look like the pig is all muddy?

I hung my picture on Grandma's refrigerator.

Oh, Grandma said to tell you that a lady gave us these gooey cookies that even Grandma didn't want me to have, but I ate it anyway. It was very good and very messy.

I'm being a good boy, Mommy, and having lots of fun. You can call me when you get lonesome.

Love,

Mcclellan

A Real Tractor Ride

We caught up with Uncle LJ this morning as he was moving his tractor to another field about 20 miles from town. He was happy to let Mcclellan ride along. I assured him that I would be right behind them. I warned LJ that he should listen if M said he had to go to the bathroom, unless he wanted a wet lap. We had driven about 10 miles at 15 mph, when he pulled off on the shoulder. I went ahead to see if there was a problem. LJ said he had fallen asleep on top of his crossed arms on the steering wheel.

I wish I had that picture.

Be nice to your friends, daddy.

When Matt left for work at 6:30 this morning, he said good-bye to us and let Mcclellan know that he wouldn't be home tonight. This is what Mcclellan said to him as he went out the door. He doesn't really chew like that, he was hamming for the camera and that's a severe case of bedhead you're seeing as he turns his face away.

I'm pretty sure Matt is always nice to his friends, and co-workers, so I don't know where that came from.

Mcclellan's Turn Part I

Mcclellan & his daddy arrived Sunday afternoon, late. His mommy is going through withdrawal, which she admitted today and which I knew on Sunday evening! We've been busy and so far he hasn't cried for his parents. His daddy's project didn't start yesterday as scheduled, so he came back and spent the night again. We went to my brother-in-law's shop yesterday evening trying to get a tractor ride but were only able to get some staged pictures on the antique combines, old wheat truck and the new tractor (with Daddy,my handsome son).

Sorry, I couln't resist.

I know I post more about Riley than my other three grandchildren. He is the oldest and until they moved he was the one I saw the most. I am expecting Mcclellan today. He's spending a couple of days with me while his daddy works in this part of the state, so maybe he will get some posts of his own.

While driving through rural Oklahoma last week, my daughter and I were pointing out the donkeys among the horses to Riley. This is a reenactment of his unsolicited reaction. His mom said he probably learned it from watching the Wiggles.

Where did that come from?

Imagine my suprise, when I looked down in the shower last night to be greeted with this sight. I wore sandals to work, yesterday, and they must have caused a skin reaction. They aren't new and I've worn them many times. Go figure.
(Yes, I know I have feet like a Hobbit)

It's just one more example of how unobservant I am. Not very long ago, someone at the gym had to point out that my shoes didn't match. They weren't even the same brand, so they should have felt a little different, shouldn't they?

A driver training class I took one time started with a "walk around". I think I need someone to give me a "walk around" before I leave the house.

Am I alone in doing these things? What have you done?

Disappointment

I received a call from my son, Matt, this evening. They were buying a different house contingent on the sale of theirs. Everything had been a go and they were set to close in less than two weeks, then the buyers of their house had their credit rating drop 40 points and lost their financing. I know my daughter-in-law, Christina, is so disappointed. She always has so much enthusiasm and was so excited about getting a home with room to grow and in the community where they do their shopping and go to church. When things don't go my way, she always reminds me that God is in control. I truly believe He has a plan that is better for them. Please pray that they have peace with this and his will becomes known to them. I know it's not a life or death matter, but it really is important to them.

Middle- Aged

In my forties, I resisted being called middle-aged. Now that I'm well into my fifties, I realize that I missed middle-age. After all, I doubt that I will live to be a hundred. So, where does that leave me? I'm not considered a senior citizen in most restaurants. Am I elderly?

Alleluia! Rain & Eyeballs

Alleluia! Dictionary.com says that this can be an interjection meaning "Praise ye the Lord" or a noun meaning "a shout of joy, praise or gratitude". Today is a an alleluia day. First because we celebrate Easter and secondly because it's raining. It's been gently raining since yesterday afternoon. We've had less than half an inch, but it's very much needed.

I received a note in the mail yesterday from Mcclellan, my youngest grandson (they are both 2- just 6 months apart). His mother has begun to homeschool him. They have been studying eyes. He dictated a message to his mommy for me and now it's proudly displayed on my refrigerator. Christina has started a new blog Preschoolbusyness to chronicle her experience.

Mom! Help!

Last night David Letterman and Michael J Fox were reminiscing. Years ago, Dave had asked Michael what it was like to have little children around. Michael told him, it was basically like suicide watch.

It brought to mind this story. My daughter's new home in Oklahoma has a small fish pond in the back yard. I had Marcy email a picture to illustrate. She wants to remind us that they've only lived there a month and last weekend had 15 inches of snow. So, excuse the mess. It's a little larger than one of those plastic kid's pools. The former owners had put an iron fence and gate around it to keep their grandchildren (or the fish) safe. The first thing the kids had to do was put a lock on the gate. Since they moved in, Riley has been obsessed with the fish. He keeps throwing his toys over the fence to get the fish to move or get the toys wet. We're not sure which. Marcy gives him a lecture and won't return his toys until he's had time to repent. This week, she heard a little voice from the back yard hollering, "Mom, help. Riley stuck." She went out to find him hung up on the top of the fence. The fence is only about 3 feet tall, but Riley is only about 2 1/2 years old. She said the worst thing about it was that he was on his way out. He had already been in and retrieved his toys, getting his pants and shoes soaked in the process.

Scary as it is, this story was kinda funny to grandma. Isn't that why only young people should have babies? Off the subject a little, can you imagine those 50 year women who are having babies coping with toddlers like our Riley?
