Friday My Town Shoot Out: Skylines

Kate, also from Kansas, chose the topic this week. She says, "My topic is up to bat this week and I picked Skylines. One of my favorite things to see when I go to a new city is the look of their skyline - and for me, skylines can be the look of a small-town Main Street or the giant buildings of a huge city's downtown or a field full of corn. What is the "skyline" that you think of when someone mentions your town?"

Well, I live on the opposite side of the state where it is very flat. This is a picture of the industrial part of my town viewed from the road that I live on. To be fair, most of the buildings are one-story structures.

The taller structures that you could possibly see from other directions are our courthouse:

and of course, the grain elevators.

I like this perspective best.

I love seeing different parts of the country. That's a beautiful courthouse and you always show such pretty fields in your pics. How are the grands?

Love the courthouse and elevator shots.

The buildings in your town are a lot taller than the ones here, the Masonic Temple building is 3 stories and the college water tower is taller. The mountains and surrounding hills provide my skyline.

Your wonderful photos make me homesick, Mary. Who'd ever think someone could be homesick for the sight of grain elevators and water towers towering over the plains?

The courthouse in your town is beautiful. I love the photos of the grain elevators. My favorite is the last one. Great perspective on skyline. I like it a lot.

I think the skyline is often more spectacular when the landscape is flat and sparse. It adds beauty to ordinary things like a water tower or a grain elevator. I just loved your photos.

Neat pics! When I think of my towns skyline-I think of our courthouse-it is solid marble-the entire thing. The previous one burnt to the ground and I guess our founding fathers wasn't going to let that happen again : )

I agree with Pauline. And I am crazy about your last pic of grain elevators. They're huge. Very cool.

There had to be grain elevators! :) I loved your take on the topic - I'm heading as far west as Manhattan next weekend, so I'll get to see some of the wide open spaces while we're driving!
