Still a mystery to me.

I've been putting off checking on my mystery thicket. The one I was sure was going to provide wild plums for some prized jelly. The last time I hiked down there, I came back with ticks. That's really off-putting. Today, I garbed up with long sleeves, long pants and a hat. The grass is waist high, so I kind of side stepped in to make an escape path. Whatever this is, it must not be edible. I've seen deer in that draw several times in the last weeks. I was afraid they might beat me to the fruit, but they can have it. Whatever IT is. Could it be some kind of mutant? Is it a pear with a disease? They feel hollow, a little like a banana pepper.

My battery in the camera went dead before I got all the pictures I wanted, but I believe I'll wait a while before I go back.

YUK, GROSS, EUWWWW...... I don't know what these are either but I know I wouldn't eat one! And I'm always preaching to the kids to try everything just once. These don't look safe, do they? Bet the blossoms were beautiful though......

Sounds like a case for the K-State Extension Office! Email them your pictures!

I agree with Christina Joy: ask the Extension Office to help you identify the plant and solve the mystery.

Now that is strange! I have to admit I haven't seen anything like those before.
I hope you find out what they are because now I am very curious too.

Have a great day.

Hmm. No, it certainly doesn't look very appetizing. Pretty gross, actually. Hubby says the ticks have been bad this year - I have to agree with him. WE HATE TICKS. We smush, tear, rip and beat the crap out of them when we find them. They have to be one of the nastiest bugs out there!
